Last week we saw a spate of advisory notices from various digital camera manufacturers warning of potential failures of the CCD sensor. This appears to affect a fairly wide range of sensors made by Sony between October 2002 and March 2004 (a huge number of products). This problem appears to be related to overheating of the CCD causing it to either fail completely or be left permanently damaged (image distortion and/or color casts), one note we have seen states that this is more likely to be an issue in hot and humid climates.
